Introduction to the design & Analysis of Structural Composites
This course introduces you to the practical aspects of designing and analyzing composite materials, even if you have no prior knowledge or experience in composites.
You will learn about each composite material manufacturing process and the different composite material systems such as glassfibre, carbon fibre, Kevlar, silicon carbide fibres, natural fibres and biocomposites.
The course covers analysis of particulates, short, continuous fibre, layered and hybrid laminates, failure criteria, minimum weight laminate, strength and stiffness requirements.
Hand calculations sizing for different structural sections, composite sandwich structures design, composite joint design, including adhesively bonded and mechanically fastened joints.
By the end of the course, you will have gained practical knowledge and experience in designing and analysing different composite material systems.
You will be able to design composite laminates based on strength or stiffness requirements and perform stress analysis using hand calculations.
