Automotive Course. Design & Analysis of Self-Piercing Rivet Joints

Design of self-Piercing Rivet Aluminum Joints

Attended/ online

Duration: 5 days

Price:

In 1999 I developed the mathematical stress formula approach to determine strength, stiffness and failure behaviour modes of self-piercing rivet joints.

This mathematical approach enables the stress engineers to quickly design aluminium car body joints and then inform the designers of what type of SPR and how many.

Since then I have trained PENSO engineers in the Stress analysis mathematics and they use these formulas for a variety of aluminium cars that car manufacturers produce.

These formulas have been used and verified by the ARC Austrian Research Council who work closely with the German car manufacturers.

Over the years I have worked with Dr. Sumanjit Singh a pioneer of SPRs.

This SPR course provides a detailed presentation with notes, formulas and hand calculations relating to the practical design and strength analysis of Lap and T-Peel joints formed with SPRs and SPRs combined with adhesive bond.

Strength Mode and Failure Mode modelling allows for product designs that maximise the structural reliability whilst minimising the weight and associated cost.

The student needs no prior knowledge of SPRs as the course pragmatically introduces all the necessary aspects of SPR joint design and stress analysis.

The following content will be covered:

• SPR History & SPR Fastening Process

• Advantages & Applications of SPRs

• SPR Lap Joint Strengths, SPR Axial Load & Failure Modes

• SPR T-Peel Joint Strengths,

• Axial Load & Failure Modes

• SPR for ACM2 Analysis • Hybrid SPRs

• SPRs combined with Adhesive Lap Joint

• SPRs combined with Adhesive T-Peel Joint

• Workshop with sample calculations in MathCad & JSAMs.

This course includes;

• a free ebook (pdf):   “The Design and Stress Analysis of Self-Piercing Rivet Joints.”

• Four Educational videos on Self-Piercing Rivets used in the automotive industry. These videos are carefully written by Dr Leigh to pragmatically increase the students knowledge on this subject.

• example manuals to support JSAMs.

• JSAMs software. Self-Piercing Rivet Joint design & analysis software.

This design & analysis of self-piercing rivet joints course includes one full year’s access to JSAMs, Joint Strength Analysis Modules.
